Mimsy Farmer and "Last House On The Left"'s David Hess star with Charles Napier.
I had read quite a bit of praise on this Italian slasher movie patterned after
the "Friday The 13th" films but have to say I was a bit let down. I mean it certainly
wasn't any worse then some of that series, but Deodato (director of the notorious
"Cannibal Holocaust" and the infinitely better "House By The Edge Of The Park")
seemed too stuck on using the American film as a blueprint. Definitely worth a
look (but don't get your hopes up!) and this is the uncut version. |

free-loving happy-go-lucky small-time cons meet up with a beautiful
woman and her mother. Unbeknownst
to them they are being followed by what seem to be assassins on
motorcycles. The woman turns out to have psychic and telekinetic
powers. Her mother offers them $2,000 to protect them from the killers.
This movie is not so much a straight-up Giallo but rather belongs
more to the "what the fuck!?" sub-genre. "Para Psychics"
has a bad reputation as one of the worst movies ever made but I
enjoyed it quite a bit! The middle part of the film is a bit hard
to follow as nothing much happens plot-wise; the 2 men wander around,
sleep with a lot of naked women and fight off attacks by the assassins.
There is a big plot twist towards the end. The free-spirited attitude
of the 2 men creates a sort of "Butch Cassidy"-on-drugs
atmosphere. Not an epic but I liked it! The picture quality is a
bit dark at times but not bad. DVD-R includes the original theatrical
trailer! Starring Jessica Dublin, Maria Aliferi, Peter Winter and
Hristos Nomikos. |

The first (and best) of a series of thrillers Lenzi made starring

(Baker) who allows a not-so-innocent vagabond and his cute sister
to stay at her mansion. The jet-set wannabees slowly begin to
dominate her until she starts to suspect that they may have a
dangerous ulterior motive! A great movie and pretty wild but still
hard to believe this was rated “X” when it came out! With Lou
Castel and Colette Descombes. Please note that there is a dodgy
looking wide-version floating around which is missing all the
nude bits. Can't have that, now, can we? Our full-frame version

ENGLISH
LANGUAGE Directed by Alberto De Martino,
Italy Another obscure one that gets little respect but I thought it was a
helluva lot cooler than most recent U.S. thrillers! Telly Savalas is an assassin
out to kill an actress with amnesia (Anne Heywood). Not knowing who or why anyone’s
after her, she must try to regain her memory and put the pieces together in time
to save her life. |

Barbara Carey plays a woman who, while on a trip to Rome, learns that her sister
is one of several blind girls who has turned up murdered recently! Following a
lead to an island where an unusual family lives, she pretends to be blind in order
to track down the culprit. Despite a bit of nudity and blood, this one does play
a bit like a t.v. movie, albeit a decent one that gets pretty intense at times! |

A
kind of black magic twist of Agatha Christie's "Ten Little
Indians". Relatives gather for the readig of a will and people
begin getting killed. Starring Susanna Levi, Jessica Dublin, Sergio
Ferrero and Camille Keaton.
On
his deathbed, Mr. Hilton observes his family and the fragility
of their name. He fears a curse falling upon the surviving lineage.
After the reading of the will, strange events and murders begin
to occur. The suspicion of the police falls upon those present
but something more supernatural is taking place. This is definately
a very unique and groovy little film. A great psychedlic scene
takes place with a rock band performing at a club. Though the
violence is rather tame (except for one scene in particular),
there is lots of nudity and sex. The plot is rather nonsensical
but it really doesn't matter, does it? Sex of the Witch
delivers the trippy goods and thats what counts! ~Melissa Kusia

Milland is Dr. Mann, a doctor / caretaker at a boarding school for young boys.
We learn that he has hired an assassin to kill a man so he can be with his beautiful
wife Sonja (reservedly played by Sylva Koscina). The plot goes overboard, however,
when the assassin blows up an entire jet airplane killing over 100 people just
to get to the one guy. Enraged upon hearing this, Dr. Mann picks up a statue and
bashes the assassin's head in. He then notices one of the young boys spying on
the incident but doesn't see which one. Sonja convinces Mann thatthey can only
do one thing to save their skins: Find out which boy it was and kill him! A fast
paced movie with a decent performance by Milland, the film still lacks any kind
of real style (which these films usually need) and comes off just okay. Also starring
Ramiro Oliveros, Franco Giacobini, Charly Bravo and María Silva. |

Kill A Stranger (Matar a un extraño, 1983) ENGLISH LANGUAGE WITH
GREEK SUBTITLES Directed by Juan Lopez Moctezuma, Mexico I was surprised
to find this one from the director of "Alucarda", "Dr. Tarr's Torture Dungeon"
and "Mary, Mary, Bloody Mary" (all available in our "Horror" section)
as years ago I had thought those were his only 3 films. Not so! This obscure murder
thriller is his 4th and second-to-last film. A pretty pop singer (believably portrayed
by popular Mexican film and t.v. star Angelica Maria in one of her only English
roles) is traveling across a Latin country to meet her news reporter husband (Dean
Stockwell). Her car brakes down during a storm and she has the unfortunate luck
of being picked up by Donald Pleasance, a rich local retired army man / war hero.
Seemingly helpful at first, he turns out to be a homicidal rapist and, while defending
herself, she ends up killing him! In a panic she hides the body in a well but
must now deal with the police and iron-fisted local army officers who are trying
to discover the whereabouts of this missing "hero"! Although competently
made, this is probably Moctezuma's most mainstream film mainly due to it's lack
of grue and the gawdawful performance by Aldo Ray as a police detective. The rest
of the cast is very good but it's Pleasance who steals the show (naturally!) and
as such the film really only kicks in during his scenes. Look for Mad Magazine
cartoonist Sergio Aragones as the controlling army general! |

After falling out of a tree on a childhood dare, a young man ends
up both physically and severly mentally scared. His mind becomes
so twisted that his only joys in life seem to be playing with plastic
toy blocks and murdering! The movie is a mix of a slasher film and
a giallo (though those hints are more than easy to figure out)!
Although it's not as bloody as one would hope and the ending is
a bit of a letdown it's not a total loss either. I would probably
recommend this one based on rarity alone. The scariest moment? That
shockingly bad disco number at the beginning!! ~Melissa Kusia

When
a young and handsome priest is brutally murdered, the police find
their investigation being pulled in several directions. Did he
have a lover? Was it a jealous husband? A young orphan adopted
by the convent holds the key to the mystery. More murders occur
before the case is solved! This giallo effort has it's sleazy
moments but ultimately focuses on building its characters and
tension more than others. The acting is fairly strong and there
are some great standout moments. ~Melissa Kusia
